No matter whether your environment is a concert hall, a concert venue, or even just your living room, you have to deal with acoustics‚ and it's the properties or qualities of an environment that determine how sound is transmitted within it.

But what if the use of the space changes over time, or if you wish to use the space for a broader range of applications, each of which has different acoustics requirements? Dependent on the purpose of the space, the requirements of those properties may differ. For problems such as these, the ideal solution is electronically variable acoustics.

Room Simulation Software

With Astro Spatial Audio, all of this, and more, can be achieved quickly, easily and affordably. We offer two different modules for the optimisation of room acoustics by electronic means.

With our Room Simulation Software Module (RSM Pro), audio professionals have discovered a new doorway to any room they can imagine. The patented algorithms offer a dynamic interactive reverberation utilising unique 3D impulse responses. The entire composition of reflections change with the position in space of the objects.

Running on Astro Spatial Audio's SARA II Premium Rendering Engine, the RSM Pro software allows you to electronically transform and enhance the acoustic characteristics of any auditorium, with an easy to use technology based on deconstructed 3D impulse responses, right at your fingertips. Whatever your ideal acoustic environment, our object-based 3D sound solution operates within the space you have created, weaving a rich, truly immersive, spellbinding experience.

The Zurich Opera House, Moscow's Maly theatre and the Presidential theatre in Ankara currently use this technology.

The principle behind the RSM Pro software requires fewer microphones than more traditional alternatives, with greater distance between the microphones and the desired sound sources. The result is a more flexible and highly discreet system, for instance in theatrical environments, relocating mics to accommodate changing scenery and lighting locations becomes far easier. Pre-sets can include known variations in microphone locations as well as desired room acoustics changes.

Alternatively, we also offer a system that does not rely on any form of artificial reverberation. Using the principles of 'non-inline reverberation', this module uses advanced algorithms for the amplification of the natural diffuse sound field.

A multitude of microphones and speakers are strategically located throughout the room and tuned individually. A dedicated GUI is developed for advanced channel optimisation. Due to the object-based nature of the Astro Spatial Audio system, and the efficiency and power of our algorithms, this results in extremely high channel gain and a very natural reverberant sound field, without any audible artefacts or colouration.
