Wuhan Conservatory of Music is a provincial public college in Wuhan, Hubei. On the morning of November 18, 2023, the High Quality Development Conference for the 70th Anniversary of Wuhan Conservatory of Music was held at the Binjiang Campus.
More than 700 people attended the conference, including representatives from domestic and foreign institutions, relevant officers of provincial and municipal departments, experts, scholars, school leaders, and representatives of teachers and students.
Our partner and Chinese AV solutions provider EZPro was handed the task of supplying and installing the audio system for the conference. To achieve consistent and accurate localization of speakers, hosts, the live woodwind ensemble, and the choir on stage, while creating a concert hall-like sound experience outdoors, EZPro implemented an immersive PA system using the Astro Spatial Audio immersive sound engine.
Tools and conception
To cover the entire auditorium area, three groups of 18 EAW Anya ADAPTive modules and four EAW SBX218 subwoofers formed the main front sound system. Nine groups of ezacoustics SL fixed curvature loudspeakers were positioned as surround sound at the sides and rear of the venue to enhance the immersive experience.
During the conference, the woodwind ensemble performed on the side of the stage. The immersive sound system utilized pickup microphones that were precisely aligned virtually with the real physical location of the audio source. This setup allowed the audience to perceive the direction and coherence of the live sound, creating a natural reverberation effect.
For the choir and live piano on stage, corresponding pickup microphones were used. These choir microphones were evenly distributed across the front of the stage in the immersive sound server. The engine’s Adaptive Wave Field Synthesis technology enabled more speakers to playback these signals, minimizing interference and enhancing sound clarity.
To ensure effective sound coverage for the front rows of the audience, six ezacoustics IMC12 coaxial point source loudspeakers were installed at the stage proscenium as fill speakers for the immersive sound system. Additionally, eight ezacoustics IMC8 loudspeakers were placed on stage as monitors.
The guests at the High Quality Development Conference, who were particularly discerning about sound quality, praised the immersive PA system. The sound director, Mr. Li Ming, also acknowledged the outstanding overall sound.
